Topic: PREPARATION FOR UPCOMING EVENTS

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Our first meeting back will cover a couple of upcoming events: the NYC trip and support for Pack 57's Pinewood Derby.

UPCOMING TRIP
New York City
1/17/09

We have decided upon a possible day trip for January. The date will be Saturday, January 17th. We plan is to take the Long Island Rail Road to New York City and attend a Watson Adventures Family Scavenger Hunt at Grand Central Station (http://www.watsonadventures.com/schedule.html) , followed by a tour of Madison Square Garden. Due to the unpredictable weather, both activities are indoors and trains usually run even in bad weather. We would get a 08:06 train out of Farmingdale (this means the train is scheduled to leave the Farmingdale station at 8:06, so arrive before this time) and we should be home around supper time. The trip would cost $40 for Scouts, which would include everything except a person’s lunch. The cost is a little high, but both tours have a cost and train and subway ride also cost money. Hopefully, we will be able to subsidize the scout cost. As with all our trips, if someone is having a temporary financial problem and this will prevent their son from going, please speak with me or one of the other leaders and the troop will take care of the costs. How much we can subsidise will of course depend on the state of the troop’s treasury. I’ll know for sure at the meeting, after I consult with our treasurer. The cost for adults will be $43 and will not be subsidized. We have to act quickly because the LIRR requires advanced notice for the group rate and Watson Tours have a maximum group size per hunt. Hunt team are made up of 6 people, at least one member must be an adult. If availability of hunt spaces is an issue, scouts and the one needed adult, will have first crack at the available spaces. People will have to make a definite commitment, which means money, at our next meeting , Jan. 6th. I have never personally attended one of these scavenger hunts, but my daughters have and they said it was great.

ATTENTION CUB SCOUT LEADERS
Your Cubs Are Invited To Join Us On Select Outings

Are you looking for new activities for your Cub Scout den? Troop 601 has set up special outings designed to allow Cub Scouts come along with us. It is a great way to: allow your cubs to experience a typical Boy Scout outing, work toward achieving a belt loop, or evaluate our troop for possible bridge-over. Click here to see the current flyer (shown on the right). The events listed on the flyer include:

  • Biking/Camping trip (10/4-10/5)
  • "Readyman" Achievement (11/25/08)
  • Cub Scout Open House (1/13/09)
  • Wood Carving (2/3/09)
  • Orienteering (Spring 2009)
As a den leader, some of these activities take the workload off of your shoulders to organize fun sessions for your Cubs. If you want more info, or wish to sign-up your den, contact us via E-Mail at: troop601@clearcutcomputing.com or call Paul Montenero at (516) 845-4081.
